Hare Scramble #6 - Peace Valley
Bartow, FL
Class: Men's A
Finish: Second
Overall Placement: 5th

GNCC has come to an end for 09 and Phil and I are excited to switch our focus and have some fun in FTR! Bartow looked like a great piece of property as we pulled in but I had heard that a previous race held here was brutal. The practice lap showed that the course had the potential to be a very rough race and one of caution due to the dust. Dust is not one of my favorite variables in racing, so I hoped I could get off to a good start this round.

As always my Yamaha fired immediately and my Rekluse clutch led me to a great start! I went into the first corner with Taylor to my left. I swept the corner a little wide and Wes Kraft moved in but I hoped I could hold third heading into the course. I heard a ride to my left as I focused on holding my line as we hit the course. After a couple turns I glanced back and Phil was there, I pushed forward knowing he wanted a win as bad as I did.

With Taylor and Wes out front they laid down some dust but I knew that if I remained calm and made no mistakes they would pull some distance on me and the dust would settle. I put in a nearly flawless first lap and charged forward through my second lap. I held the lead until lap 3 when 16 year old Gus Rickman would challenge me for first place. I know how great of a rider Gus is, so as we made our way through the last whoop section I tried to hold on but Gus would grab the lead. I settled into a pace behind Gus, never losing an extreme amount of ground. It seemed I had his dust right in front of me the whole last lap and I could see him on occasion.

What I had for this race would not be enough for Gus; as he also put in a near perfect ride. Congrats Gus on your first of many to come A class wins!!! Phil unfortunately would have an overheating issue that hindered him but he was able to complete four laps. As for me - I felt great during the race; my ELKA suspension was very impressive; a huge THANK YOU to Jay Gobel and Jeff Horton for their continued support!! It seems my suspension is better than it has ever been - which is a great sign of what is to come as I begin training harder for the 2010 GNCC series.

Thanks to God for blessing me with a safe race, Phil for his love and support, and of course my great group of sponsors who I could not do this without; ELKA, ARS-FX, Rekluse, MAXXIS, HMF, HiPer Technology, Spider Grips, DP Brakes, Precision, Rath, Cycle Gear, Scott, Flexx, CV4, IMS, ProGraph-X, Triple X Motorsports, and PowerMadd!!
